Bishop Anthony “Tony” M. Martin, Sr. was born on May 6, 1954 and was raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. As a child, he was a member of Greater Galilee Baptize Church, where he attended with his family. He first accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior in 1974 at Bethesda Church of God in Christ, and enrolled in Charles Harrison Mason School of Theological Studies later that year. He attended this Bible College for two years; he also has earned a degree in Human Services.
Bishop Martin attended Bethesda Church of God in Christ for the next 19 years where he held various positions up to and including Deacon before he was called to Minister God’s Word. He became a licensed Minister in 1986, and was Ordained in 1989. God provided him with the foresight to start his own church (with focus on “It’s All About Souls”), in 1993 in the lower level of his home and Holy Recovery International Church (formerly Holy Recovery Church of God in Christ) was established. As his congregation grew, they moved from his home to The House of the Lord Church of God in Christ until the purchase of their edifice and he was installed as the Senior Pastor in 1993.
In 2000, he retired from his trade as a Certified Journeyman Tool Room Machinist with the Master Lock Company, after 27 years of service in the trade; he entered the ministry on a full-time bases. Seventeen years later Holy Recovery International Church is comprised of 600 members and partners while continuing to grow. Under his tutelage and dynamic leadership, the church has established a prison ministry that ministers to more than 500 men twice a month, with many of them proclaiming salvation and continuing in their service in the Lord upon their release.
Within his Jurisdiction (Wisconsin First), he served three years as the State Mission President, and was appointed Superintendent of The Milwaukee Progressive Brotherly Love District, now named The Progressive Brotherly Love District in 2001 by Bishop Sedgwick Daniels.
He has traveled throughout the United States and the World preaching and teaching the gospel with power, clarity and anointing for such leaders as Bishop W.W. Hamilton, (Sea Side, CA) Secretary of the Board of the late Presiding, the Late Bishop G. E. Patterson and Bishop Bassett (Iowa).
Bishop Martin is married to his high school sweetheart, First Lady Evangelist Debra Martin. To this union God has blessed them with six children. They are proud grandparents of nine grandchildren and all of them are in the minister.
